Recruiting from Universities: Pros and Cons
Hiring youthful employees is a reality. for many businesses in today's cut-throat business environment. However there are many faith that are held in regard to today’s newfangled college graduates they are lazy they don’t have people skill or mostly they are only interested in their phones and social media platform. Sure, there’s some legitimacy to these cliche. However, hiring graduates doesn’t have to be a terrible experience if you know what you are getting yourself into. A lot of it is on you to recruit, interview and hire the juvenile people that fit what you need. To help you prepare your hiring strategy, here are some pros and cons for hiring young people straight out of college. We will start with both pros the cons.
Pro: Save on stipend
Hiring a college student with less or no previous work experience means spending less
on that employee’s compensation. You will still need to pay them fairly and will
be responsible for costs associated with hiring a temporary employee but those costs will be significantly less than if you were to hire an
employee with a college degree and work experience.
Con: They will Have Less Work contingency
Many
college students will be excited to learn and have a willingness to work more hard
for your business. However those attributes cant make up for the
experience that comes with spending years working in your industry. If
the position you are hiring for requires specific skills you might need
to hire someone with a more strong resume. By hiring a student for the
position, you will need to contribute more time training them for the job,
which could result in higher on boarding expense as well.
Pro: They May Have versatility You Haven’t Considered
A
college student may not have month or years of work experience, but there is a
good chance that they’ll have some valuable skills to bring to their
role. For example, college students may be having proper technological and practical knowledge as they have the ability to make good judgement or
have fresh ideas when it comes to utilizing social media platform to promote your
business. Having access to their skills could help you successfully accomplish tasks
that you would not be able to otherwise.
Con: college work Will Be a first preference
When
hiring a full time acknowledge employee you can expect them to make
their job a top preference. On the other hand when your employee is also a college student, college work will most likely be their firstly primary focus. This can work
out well if you are hiring for a particular period of time position allowing the student
to work during college breaks. However if you are looking for a contractual employee, you all need to keep in mind that a college student may not be present during your business’s hours of operation.
Pro: A enthusiasm to gain knowledge
Along
with a money to help cover college and living expenses students will
be using jobs they take during college to build their valuable work
experience. Taking on a job in addition to college work provides college students by getting chance to become familiar with working in an office or
other work place depending on your work industry and all the tasks
that come with that. Due to that they’ll be open to learning as much as
possible to build the skills they’ll use throughout their career.
Con: ambivalent agenda
Because college work is the focus for a college student employee, you’ll need to be
flexible with your work timetable. This might not be a issue if you
only need short term help during winter and summer breaks but things
will get more puzzled throughout the academic year. Your employee’s college timetable will likely change from one semester to the next,
meaning you’ll need to adjust his or her work timetable every few months.
